Upgraded Design
JMPancher Consulting was hired by an OEM to help with a redesign and rebuild of a traveling grate iron ore preheater located in Whyalla, Australia.
Using scans of original drawings, some existing 3D models and multiple measurements gathered during site visits, JMPancher Consulting created an accurate 3D model of the existing building and equipment.
In addition, various design changes were engineered to alleviate some production and maintenance roadblocks that the customer was encountering.

THE PROBLEM
REBUILD and UPDATE
60 YEAR OLD EQUIPMENT
Due to throughput constraints and maintenance issues, the end user was not able to reach production goals.
It was determined that the best course of action was a rebuild of the machine, with thoughtful upgrades to alleviate the bottlenecks in the system.
Additionally, JMPancher Consulting helped oversee the installation and commissioning of the rebuilt machine, created new and updated manuals for the equipment and assisted in procurement and quality concerns for the
OEM supplier.

THE SOLUTION
CREATE A REPLACEMENT COOLER
USING 60 YEAR OLD HAND DRAWINGS
JMPancher Consulting created an accurate, 3D model (using AutoCAD Inventor) of the existing
building and equipment along with a 3D scan of portions of the machine to aid with install, pipe
routing and maintenance access.
We were able to increase the fidelity of the 3D models by utilizing the legacy hand drawings of the existing equipment. This allowed our team to perform analysis of components and downtime incidents in order to improve the production capacity (throughput and availability).
Design packages were created by JMPancher Consulting for different areas of the machine
(drive assembly, conveyor chain, air seals, etc) and transferred to the OEM for procurement.
JMPancher then worked with the OEM during procurement to answer quality and manufacturing
related questions.
Finally, JMPancher Consultants worked with the installation contractor and OEM to oversee the
installation and commissioning of the equipment.
